OUR HISTORY

The history of the ‘Bye Bye Blues’ restaurant begins in 1991, the year in which Patrizia Di Benedetto, a great lover of cooking, and Antonio Barraco, an expert sommelier and bartender, decided to purchase an unknown pub in Mondello, near the most beloved beach in Palermo.

Antonio Barraco, Patrizia di BenedettoThey, who then got married, had previously worked together in a small cocktail bar in Mondello, known as ‘La Tavernetta’ Pub, which quickly became one of the most popular pubs in the city.

Putting together the Antonio’s experience, which he gained around the world by working on cruise ships of the Sitmar Cruises, an Italian shipping company, and the passion and talents of Patrizia as chef, the idea of the big ‘jump’ took shape: i.e., jumping into the world of catering. Patrizia uses the teachings of the women of her family, great connoisseurs of the traditional Sicilian cuisine, and improves her knowledge by attending various advanced training courses, both in Italy and abroad.

Once accepted the challenge, the adventure of this restaurant, on which few would have bet on, began. Patrizia and Antonio are so confident to succeed that, in spite of any unfavourable prediction, they do not even change the original (and unpopular) name: ‘Bye Bye Blues’ indeed...

The results were not long in coming: in a time when the city of Palermo was tired of unchanged and accustomed models of restoration; the ‘Bye Bye Blues’ brings an air of renewal, so as to become a paradigm for many other local in search of a fresher and more innovative culinary art.

Patrizia di Benedetto, Antonio BarracoThe ‘Bye Bye Blues’ activity is rewarded with several prestigious awards from the most famous gastronomic guides, as well as with a large number of positive reviews from the press.

In 1997, the restaurant received his award from ‘L’Espresso’ Guide as the best pastry restaurant in Italy and, in 2010 the long-awaited Michelin Star comes. For Patrizia and Antonio this award, which for many chef is the end of a line, is just the launching pad for further goals of excellence at the service of the palate of food lovers, who keep choosing the ‘Bye Bye Blues’.
